Do you know that you are living the best part of your baby’s life? Success, Honour and Happiness may abound his later life. But you hold the key. I am going to tell you how exactly to find it.
You certainly wish that your baby should grow up to be
- focused in everything he does,
- able to acquire the right kind of knowledge,
- mature enough to face life’s challenges.
You may be a busy parent, but don’t you care to spare at least a few moments every day to keep him happy, to be there for him? This quality time is exactly the key to your baby’s prosperous life. Of all the expensive gifts that you have been presenting your baby, only ONE will be lasting throughout his life: Gift him the Reading skill.
As I hinted to you, you would hardly incur any expense for this unique gift, because we need only
- Your cheerful and exciting attitude
- Flash cards.
You know too well that attitude is more important than aptitude. Your baby loves you most when you are in a happy and playful mood. That exactly is the time to teach him to read. For how long a period? Just five seconds to begin with!
When you ask your baby “Where is the ball?”, his eyes scan the room and stop only when he catches a glimpse of the ball. Say “Ice cream” and the next moment he moves towards the freezer.
Come to think of it, you never spelt the word or “taught” him what these objects were. He heard them as you showed them to him. So did the names of siblings, aunts, toys and food stuff come into his life. You are going to repeat this process to make him read.
The falsh cards are simple, home-made and unique (like the exquisite designer wear that you would choose, to stand out in a crowd!). And of course, it goes perfectly with YOUR baby’s liking.
Here are the simple rules to get started:
- All you need to do is to cut the chart paper/ poster board to the size of 8cm X 24cm into strips of white sheet, now called Flash cards.
- Get a wide tipped marker pen - red or black and use the same colour always for one language. You can choose the other colour when you start flashing cards to teach your baby another language.
You are ready now! What do you do next?
- Choose five most familiar words which would excite your baby: for example - mommy, ice cream, bat, chocolate, television. (You may choose the ones that your baby would enjoy.)
- Write each of the five words in the five cards. The letters should be 3″ high and written in bold.
- Do not write in the cursive style - write only in the printed form.
- Use only lower case letters. Upper case will be used for the proper nouns only.
Your flash cards are ready! Its time to start teaching your baby to read!
